Vintage TAYLOR Lg. Metal Cased Field Engineering, Surveying Barometer Altimeter

From my Barometer collection: Here we have a Vintage TAYLOR INSTRUMENTS, Large Metal Cased, Field Engineering, Surveying Aneroid Barometer Altimeter. In 1851, George Taylor started Taylor Instruments in Rochester New York. The company started out making instruments for the professional market. They started out small, but their motto was (and still remains) Accuracy First. During the Industrial Revolution years, Taylor grew with the demands for new technologies, streamlining processes and advancing with the manufacturing world. It made altitude barometers for the fighter aircraft, and was also the standard of any aircraft made during this time. During WWII, the company became a critical supplier of their precision instruments, such as compasses, with all of their thermometers, hygrometers and barometers going to the war effort, none for consumer use. The dial is marked with: COMPENSATED FOR TEMPERATURE Taylor ROCHESTER, N. This is a typical large Surveying Barometer/Altimeter used by Surveying Engineers when performing field work in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. This aneroid barometer is in very good’used’ condition. It is in working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. The heavy duty nickel-coated brass case is stamped on the rear U. Which may indicate government use? The dial surface is in very good condition with a very clean appearance. And the revolving altimeter ring moves as it should. He beveled-edge crystal is in very good condition with no cracks or edge nicks. The top crown and bow ring are in good condition with some wear to the nickel coating. Barometer is 3 in diameter Std. Pocket barometers are 2. It is 1-5/16 thick. You don’t see these large engineering. Barometers too often especially one that is working! Please remember to leave Feedback. I will gladly reciprocate.
