I’m moving to a much smaller place and sadly I must downsize. The Barometer was made in France by the renowned instrument maker Paul Richard in the latter part of the 1800’s. Paul Richard worked with Bourdon the inventor in the mid 1800’s and they were the first to make this kind of barometer. Paul Richards stamp can be seen on the structural part of the mechanism along with the word Brevete (French for patented) stamped in the middle and the. At the other end. It’s a very clever and intricate design that has been working steadily for the last 140-150 years. It is 5 1/8 inches in diameter (not counting the hanger) and 2 3/8 inches in depth. The dial is printed on the back of thick beveled glass. The writing is in French and the words Barometre Metallique are printed along the bottom. The setting pointer works as it should. The hanger is tight and sturdy. There are no cracks or chips on the beveled glass. There is what I believe to be a locking knob on the mechanism’s brass upright but I won’t fool with it. All in all this is a wonderful example of a very rare and desirable barometer that anyone would be proud to own.
