Vintage or Antique Ferguson & MacBean Carved Wood Aneroid Barometer. The barometer measures 16 3/4 from the top of the finial to the bottom and 9 across at the widest point. We are not sure of the age of the barometer. It has tiny brass Phillips or star screws which could have been replaced at one time, one of these screws as you can see in a closeup is worn. This barometer uses a clockwork type key in a hole at the back to adjust barometric pressure to an accurate reading as this is a one needle or pointer barometer. We dont have the key but probably one could found at a clock repair shop. The face of the barometer is enamelled and if you look closely under light you can see fine crazing of the enamel. The beveled glass front is in very nice condition with one flea bite of a nick below the letter R in aneroid. The decorative wooden flange at the base had one piece glued back on. There is some glue residue on both side sides of the decorative bottom piece and on the left, some scratches in the wood. The top with finial is solid and in beautiful condition but it swivels around a bit. Not a problem, once the barometer is hung on the wall. This beautiful, high quality barometer was manufactured in Inverness by Ferguson & MacBean and weighs a hefty 5 lbs. Before packaging for mailing. Only mailing this item to Canada or the USA.
