From my Barometer collection: Here we have an Antique ELLIOTT BROS. London, Large Brass Cased Field Engineering, Surveying Barometer Altimeter. The Elliott Brothers company operated in London, England form 1834 – 1921. Lectrical instrument makers, Mathematical instrument makers, Optical instrument makers and Philosophical instrument makers, specializing in barometers, microscopes, theodolites, transits, etc. The dial is marked: COMPENSATED ELLIOTT BROS. This large diameter and thick instrument was typcial tken inot eh field by engineers or meteorologists to perform scientific studies regarding weather patterns, hurricanes, etc. These were also used by Surveyors for use in mapping geological formation, etc. The instrument is in very good’used’ condition. The brass cased barometer is in working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. The case shows some a very nice aged-brass finish. No dents in the case. The silvered dial is in very good condition with a very clean appearance and light age tarnish. No nicks, chips or cracks in the beveled-edge crystal. The revolving outside altimeter ring works as it should. The top crown and bow ring have gone missing over the years but could be easily replaced. The back of the case is marked: William F. Barometer is 2-7/8″ in diameter x 1-1/16″ thick. Nice complete and working barometer!! THAT MANY SELLERS TRY TO MARKET AS AN ANTIQUE. Apologies’ – missing top bow ring.
