Antique Georgian Mahogany Banjo Barometer, Hatton Garden


A Georgian mahogany cased mercurial wheel barometer and thermometer. The barometer is engraved on the dial. The case is decorated with a circular inlaid flower at the base and top and an inlaid conch shell either side of the thermometer. The edge of the barometer has a pair of line inlays of boxwood and ebony. The slim alcohol thermometer is on the Fahrenheit scale and is held against a silvered scale in a mahogany case with a glass cover. The barometer has an architectural pediment with a brass urn in the centre. Made somewhere between 1805 -1819 and recorded as made as one of the several Italian barometer makers in London at the turn of the 18th – 19th century. Height 96cm (37.8 inches).
