Richard & Joseph Beck were were very well known optical and instrument makers located in London, England. They manufactured a wide range of scientific instruments such as early. Barometers and microscopes, etc. They worked at at several sites in London with the 31 Cornhill St. The dial is marked: STORMY RAIN CHANGE FAIR VERY DRY R. This instrument is in Very Good’used’ condition. The barometer is in working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. Case shows a little wear with intermittent tarnish. The rear case cover has a very nice’tooled / textured’ surface. You don’t see these German Silver cased barometers too often, particularly with a’tooled’ rear surface! There is a tiny metal’nub’ at the edge of the rear case cover (see pic). Not sure what that is The silvered dial is in very good condition with a clean appearance and only a little shading in the upper right quadrant. No nicks, chips or cracks in the beveled-edge crystal. The revolving outside ring works as it should. The top crown and bow ring are in very good condition. Barometer is 2 in diameter. Nice complete and working barometer!!
