A small charming antique weather station, barometer, thermometer in hand-carved wood. Amazing piece of history! It is very decorative. Masonic weather station with a Masonic emblem on the dial and mechanism (see photo). The weather station depicts the logo of Freemasonry, the Masonic compass and square, and the letters G. Two temperature scales are designated: the Reaumur scale and the Celsius scale. The inscription on the dial: G. Frei METALL BAROMETER Barr. Barr is now a French city with a vibrant German charm. The city is located in the historical and cultural region of Alsace, which changed its nationality four times between 1870 and 1945: then Germans, then French. Apparently, in one of these German periods, a weather station was made by a certain G. Dimensions (inch): 18.9×9.4. The barometer is working, the thermometer is working, but I cannot guarantee the accuracy. Mercury temperature scale Reaumur and Celsius. On the back of the case s/n 2338 and 2108. In France, the Reaumur thermometer was widely used before the adoption of the Celsius scale. The transition was long: the Celsius scale was adopted by the Convention in 1794, but the newspapers after fifty years still gave the temperature either on the scale or on both. See my other old clocks. Important: the age of the product is approximate. Antique items are not new items! Things that are old can be imperfect, don’t expect them to look new.
