Stick barometer with rippled wood trim for restoration. I have way too many restoration projects to do so I’ll start with this one because it’s an easy restoration project for someone with some basic skills. I bought this years ago having a broken tube but not much else wrong. I removed the broken tube to remove the rest of the mercury. The glass cistern is not broken and all you would need is a simple glass tube that is available in several places. I can supply you with a name if wanted. I will include the broken tube so you can match the length. The nickeled plate with working thermometer is in good shape as can be seen in the photo. The knob at the top moves the vernier scale and it is in working condition although it could probably use a little attention. I did not remove the barometer top. The barometer wood is walnut and doesn’t have a finish on it. There are a few blemishes to the wood and a few scuffs but no gouges or deep scratches. The barometer has the rippled trim and there are no missing pieces so refinishing the case would be an easy task. The orange paper covered the rear bottom to hide the glass cistern. The barometer measures 36 inches in length, is 4 1/4 inches wide at the top and has a depth of 2 1/4 inches. It weighs in at about 4 pounds without any mercury. Have no idea as to exact age but probably dates to the later half of the nineteenth century. I don’t end listings early. The item “Stick Barometer” is in sale since Saturday, September 18, 2021.
