A Victorian pocket altimeter barometer, probably dating from the last quarter of the 19th century. It would have been used by explorers, mountaineers, or travelers. Although there are no maker’s marks, it was made in Germany. The inner scale is ambient pressure in inches of Mercury (from 22 to 30). The outer dial is for altitude, calibrated from zero to 8,000 feet. The barometer has a rotating bezel and an adjustment screw on the rear. Condition: the barometer is in good antique condition, please see photos as they form part of the description. The barometer seems to be working as it varies from day to day. The case is in good condition, with wear on all sides. The beveled glass is in excellent condition, and the dial and needle seem fine. 48 mm diameter and 20 mm thick 1 7/8 dia. Included: Altimeter, Custom case, and a well-worn and yellowed instruction sheet.
