We offer for your consideration this antique pocket barometer. This barometer was produced by. Short & Mason Ltd. Thomas Short and James Mason became partners and started their precision instrument business in London in 1875. Sometime before 1920, the company added the Tycos name to their scientific instruments. The barometer has a scale that reads from 17 to 31 inches of pressure. It also has a altitude scale that reads from 0 to 16000 feet. The case looks to be plated brass, it measures approximately 2 inches in diameter, and is approximately 5/8th inch in thickness. The face is a silver with a blued indicating hand. On the rear of the barometer a small adjustment screw is located. When I wrote this I checked online for our current pressure. The pocket barometer read 30, online the pressure was reported as 30.03. Not too bad for an instrument that is close to 100 years old. The altitude dial turns freely, but it could use some cleaning. If you are a collector of antique weather instruments, this pocket barometer will a wonderful addition to your collection. Don’t visit Mount Everest without it.
