Antique barometer made in Wismar Germany (on the Baltic Sea) by S. It is housed in a wooden case carved in the Black Forest style. The barometer itself is about 5 across. It has thick, beveled edge glass which is cracked. There is a brass hand which can be manually set to the current conditions while the blue steel hand is controlled by the barometer mechanism which can be seen through the opening in the center of the face. Contrary to many listings you might read, this is NOT a “Veranderlich” barometer. That translates to “variable” and is simply one of the weather conditions that is printed around the top of the face. The case is solid wood with a circle of leaves around the opening and a notched band around the outer edge. It is about 8 1/4 across. It’s in good condition but there are some chips on a few leaves. The back of the wood is stamped “1149″ and on the metal plate covering the back of the barometer is stamped “D&R”. If you’re not into barometers, this would make a really interesting frame for a photo or an interesting object. There is a metal hook at the top. There is one tiny brass screw missing on the front and one tiny screw missing on the back but the instrument is firmly held in place with the remaining screws. THANKS FOR VIEWING OUR LISTING!
