Antique Swiss Black Forest Wood Carving Barometer Thermometer Bird Nest Butterfly c1890. It is carved from lindenwood by one of the master Swiss carvers and stained a rich walnut brown. We see relief, 3D relief, and filigree carving showing a bird at the top at its nest. Flowers, leaves and berries adorn the carving, and above the barometer, we see a butterfly. The carving is Swiss, but the wording on the barometer is in French. The thermometer is in Celsius. This piece dates to circa 1890. The piece measures 24 1/4″ tall, 11 1/2″ wide. Bird is 5 1/2″ x 3 3/4″. Face of barometer is 4 1/2 diameter. Showing expected signs of age wear, especially to many edges- scuffed or chipped. Bird missing part of beak and part of tailfeather. Butterfly legs show a natural fissure separation in the wood. Much of this condition is not visible when hanging on the wall. Review all photos as part of complete condition detail.
