Antique French Black Forest Wood Carving Thermometer Barometer Hunt Fox Crow Paris. The wood is beautifully carved, probably linden wood, and stained a rich walnut brown. The decor of grape leaves, two birds, and the head of a fox, all carved in a cut out pattern. The decor refers to Aesop’s fable of the fox and the crow. The thermometer is in Centigrade and Reaumur. The barometer is in brass and the dial looks to be enameled metal. The thermometer is glass and porcelain enameled metal. The barometer is marked Patoueille from Paris (see photos). It measures 27 1/2″ tall, 12 1/4″ wide, and 2 1/2 deep. Some discoloration under the glass on the rim of the barometer. The barometer works, we don’t know of the thermostat does.
