This is a rare, antique mahogany wall barometer by famous Italian barometer maker John Merry aka J. It is engraved with makers name and address J. Ronketti, 180 Holborn, London. Ronketti is one of the famous and first Italian barometer makers who relocated to London around 1780. Overall height is 36 1/2. Barometer Glass is 8. Barometer Glass is intact with silver/red dial, engraved with maker’s name and address: J. Thermometer glass is intact. Leveler on bottom is intact. Convex mirror on top is intact as well as glass cover over level. Key in keyhole is intact. Hooks above and below barometer are intact. Wood veneer in one place below mirror is missing (about 1″ by 3/4″), and some lifting/cracking of veneer is noticeable. The wood veneer is decorated with fan pattered and checkered string on edges. At 3 different places some of the edges have lifted off (between 1″ and 2″). Glass door on front of thermometer is intact and thermometer glass is intact. Back wooden door is intact and hinges and fasteners and all glass tubing within is intact. There is some illegible signature/writing on the back (pictured). I’m not sure what or when this was done, or if it is part of the piece originally. We’re not sure on how/when/where is was acquired or if it has been restored before and if any parts are or are not original. If you have any questions I’ll do my best to answer. Thanks and good luck!
