Antique E English Weather Station Beautiful Wood Case Glass Intact New Castle Upon Tyne England. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! Quite an Antique English Wheel Barometer Weather Station here. It was made by “J English” of “New Castle on Tyne” in England. That wording is printed on the level meter at the bottom of the weather station case. This piece probably dates back to the early to mid 1800s, but that is just a guess. You be the judge before acquiring. Any assistance in refining the manufacture date of this Weather Station would be appreciated. Your identity would be kept anonymous. What a wood case this weather station has! Have not had one as nice and complete as this one in years. The case is made of mahogany wood. All solid wood, no inlay. Very little veneer loss here. The decorative top is still in place at the top of the case and has great scrolling trim still in place. There is not a hole for a brass or wood finial at the top of the case, so not sure if there was another piece of wood on top of of the one there to hold a finial. The rear wood door of the case is securely attached by the two hinges. The lock latch is still in place. The old metal hanger is still on the back of the barometer case as well and securely attache to the case. The numbers and names on the silver metal face are engraved or pressed into the face, not just stenciled or painted on. The barometer hand is still in place as is the hand to set next to the larger hand to note the last reading one had. Making contact with face, so needs some resetting attention. The hand still moves when activated by the bone and metal knob below the face. Do not see fluid in place in the thermometer. The barometer component of the weather station is not operational. The brass bezel and glass over the face of the barometer is in place over the barometer face. The thermometer at the top of the Weather Station is in place as is the glass and wood frame around it. The red fluid in the level is still in place and has the bubble in it. Beautiful brass bezels around the hydrometer, barometer, and level. The glass over the these three instruments and the thermometer are intact, no cracking or blistering. The glass tube is still in the back of the case and has mercury in it as well. There are two glass slides that go into the tubes and they are in place as well. This is a great project Weather Station here just waiting for the right person to restore it to the piece’s former glory. The Weather Station is 37.75″ tall, by 10-3/8″ across, by 2″ wide (by glass over barometer face, 2.25″ by knob). Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
