This wonderful antique brass PHBN piece has a glass thermometer inside (curved) that reads in both farenheit and centigrade as wel as a Holostreric Barometer. As best I can tell the thermometer is giving an accurate reading, per the electric weather station I have in the house. The barometer on the other hand is in a different scale (between 28 and 31) than the % humidity my station is giving. Currently the barometer is reading 29.46 (my station is reading 55% RH). This piece measures 5.25″ diameter and is 2″ thick (4.5 diameter on the backside). The backside is marked “PHBN”. I believe this thermometer was produced in the early 1900s and the company PHBN made weather instruments for sailors. My guess is that Semmons Opticians imported the piece for sale in the U. The glass crystal is beveled along the edge and there is a mounting ring at the top edge of the piece. This is a nice vintage piece and would make a wonderful addition to a collection.
