Wonderful decorative accents, these fine old country french or black forest style barometers always bring an undeniable charm with them. This one not actually a black forest piece but with hand carved foliate accents and the darker finish is quite attractive. The back panel is in solid european hardwood (not sure, possibly rosewood or walnut), the barometer mount, columns and spindles applied to that rear panel. The barometer face itself is card and the text is in french. One of several wonderful antique wall barometers that we’re listing this week, i guess the hot weather had me fixated on these aesthetic decorative instruments . The thin lower tapered portions of those top spindles have a repaired break. The glass face on the barometer has been replaced.
