Antique black forest weather station with hunter motif (deer is missing antlers) germany #5113. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! An ebayer recently selected this item, but then never paid for it. Not sure of the age or maker of this weather station. My best guess is the piece is from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The weather station was made in germany as noted on the back of the case. There is also the number 5113 noted on the case. The weather station has a great looking wood case to it. The case may be made of walnut, but not sure so you be the judge. Have not come across a weather station with a hunter’s motif in a long time. It has the deer, dog head, pouch, and guns carved into the case along with oak leaves and other foliage. All the detailing and the case seem to be there with the exception of the deer antlers. The detailing on the deer is amazing. Even all the legs are there which were very delicately carved, no missing pieces or repairs to the legs. The thermometer has silver liquid in it (probably mercury) that seems to be capturing the temperature still. Cannot say if it is accurate. The porcelain dial behind the thermometer is still intact and has “c” and “f” on it for celsius and farenheit respectively. The glass over the barometer face is intact, no cracking or blistering. There is some scratching to the glass. The barometer seems to be operating too, cannot speak to its’ accuracy. The needle to note the current barometer position still works as well, just a little tight. The hanger is still at the top of the piece. This is a great weather station just waiting for the right owner. The weather station is 28.75″ tall, by 12.5″ across, by 2.25 wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
