Antique barometer in weighted oak case. After several hours of research, i believe this was made by chadburn & sons around the turn of the century. The grain in the oak is gorgeous! She also stated that it works, but did not know its origin. Today is a sunny, dry day, and the dial is registering that. It measures 12″ tall, the base is 9.5″ long and 4 1/8 deep. The white enamel over brass face measures 5.5 in diameter. It has a brass bezel as well. There is a slight gap between the base and the molding above it and i see what appears to be a center hollowed out area with a substance in it.
It is very hard to see because the gap is only about 1/16 and in the front only. The dial pointing to “fair” is a metalic blue. The other dial is brass and turns with the center knob. The lens is cracked in 4 places and will need to be replaced.
I have not taken it apart, other than the back wood plate, so i do not know any details on the interior. The item “Antique Chadburn & Son Barometer with Weighted Oak Case Mantle Ships RARE” is in sale since Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
