Victorian black forest carved wall barometer thermometer, as is. Antique victorian carved walnut barometer. Lovely antique victorian ornate carved walnut black forest style wall barometer measuring about 26 in length. Featuring a lovely stylized shell design on the crest, turned column gallery, applied beading, criss cross designs, roundels, pierced scrollwork plumes, and four turned finials, it is mounted with a glass fronted barometer with french writing around the border of “tempete g de pluie pluie ou vt variable beau temps beau fixe tres-sec” which translates to stormy rain wind variable beautiful beautiful fixed dry i think — based on high school french! And the name barometre aneroide across the face bottom edge – center of the barometer has an open face so that the workings are exposed. Ase condition is lovely with no missing pieces, repairs or damage other than a few tiny nicks in some of the turnings — unfortunately, the original thermometer which would have fit into the opening has gone missing – measuring from the back, a 5-1/4″ long by 1-1/4″ wide thermometer would seated into the opening from the back — i have seen replacements listed online. The barometer face as shown has a crack in the glass – think this could easily be replaced but it does not detract – and the original hanging hook on the back is missing the ring that would have originally threaded through the channel – i think a wire could simply be threaded through the opening to facilitate hanging. Just a lovely antique piece – elegant carving, original patina and a striking decoration – wonderful addition to any home, collection or display!
