The thermometer works perfectly. The barometer is antique and its function has not been tested, making it a fascinating piece for collectors. Its elegant Napoleon III style adds charm and authenticity to any interior, whether for classic décor or a collection of historical objects. Width: 15 cm (5.9 in). Height: 54 cm (21.3 in). In 1873, when he was 25 years old, he took over the well-established optics business SF Trostel in the Eberhardstrasse 37, in Stuttgart. Here, he started with the production of aneroid capsules in the very same year. From the exemplary documentation of the Lufft house, it is evident, that these membrane capsules were known in Germany in the beginning 70’s in Germany already but obviously needed to be imported from France. It became a market which was administered by G. Lufft very successfully, at the beginning in his optics production workshop, from 1881 on in the newly founded mech. There, aneroid barometers, compasses, hygrometers and further meteorological instruments were produced.

Rare 18th century double bubble or double bulb Sand- or Hour-Glass also called a Clepsammia in good original condition, still works! Hour-Glasses from this period are difficult to find; if you collect these objects you know. Measuring 9-14 inches in height, this hour-glass makes a statement. The glass spheres are padded on both ends by dark red felt pads. The fife slender pillars are turned wooden rods on a lathe. Just a beautiful science instrument used around the second half of the 18th century. At that time, the two glass spheres were connected by a “knot” around a wax seal. A truly rare find and an addition to any collection of hour glasses or scientific instruments. What you see is what you get.
