Louis Courvoisier’s second wife was Julie Houriet, a niece of Jacques Frédéric Houriet, who was also the inventor of the bimetallic thermometer. Offered here is this stunning antique circa late 1800’s wheel barometer and thermometer with inlay mother of pearl mahogany wood case. The face of the barometer is marked Coulson Newark. There is a door on the back which opens up to the glass tube for the thermometer. The door has some old tape on it which can be removed if desired. The door is held closed with two small latches which turn and hold it in place. The tube still has its original mercury in it but there is an air bubble in the mercury. I have a cork in the end of the tube so no mercury will come out from the top of the tube. The tube is fully intact and free from damage. The original threads or strings are in there also. The barometer and thermometer are both in original condition as is the case. It’s an absolutely beautiful piece and possibly even a one of a kind, or at least very rare. We have owned this for a long time and have never come upon another like it even through lots of researching. It measures 38″ long x 14″ wide at the widest point.
