For sale is a wonderful set of French empire desk top garnitures featuring a thermometer and a calendar. Each set on a rouge marble. Each with a tall plinth form with gilt laurel wreath and telescope cast finials. Decorated with foliate ogee cornice and panel bordered with lotus leaf lappet surround, on conforming cast skirt base mounted on a rouge marble base. Each being attached with a square brass/bronze nut on the bottom marble base. The thermometer with kerosene-based column with red dye. The calendar with probably a reproduction paper calendar for purposes of display inside. One having a retail label on the bottom from a Paris France retailer. We cannot discern the name. Both in overall good condition for age. Some gilt loss, surface scratches etc… The calendar with a frontal corner chip loss to the rouge marble base. Height – 8 1/2 approximately. Old barometer, very good condition, operational. Height – 67 cm, width – 30 cm. Pictures 3,4,5. LARGE, HUGE AND MASSIVE AND VERY rare, very old (antique) barometer – an ornamented sculpture, the barometer is also functional, beautifully maintained – until you believe that they have survived in this condition until today – of course everything works as it should – BDB condition! Thick glass, the so-called bevelled, hard wood, well-kept. Both barometers are beautiful, functional, decorative, large and old. Made in a similar style with changes to the carving. Antique Taylor Wood & Brass (Home Made) Wall Barometer 19 Weather Station with Two (2) Thermometers V. This wonderful antique scientific instrument has a charming Victorian style and a primitive country appeal. The bottom gauge, made in Germany, has multiple functions and readings. The top scale reads changes in air pressure based in inches in mercury (inHG) from. 27.9 inHG to 31.1 inHG and can give indications of weather patterns depending on rising, falling or steady needle readings. A barometric reading below 29.80 inHg is generally considered low, and low pressure is associated with warm air and rainstorms. Rising or steady pressure indicates clearing and cooler weather. Slowly falling pressure indicates rain. Rapidly falling pressure indicates a storm is coming. Below this is a very unique curved mercury thermometer that has markings for measurements in ºC & ºF from [-5ºC to 45ºC] & [23ºF to 113ºF]. The Taylor made thermometer on top has been somewhat damaged by a solvent that was intended to clean the tarnish from the brass surfaces. The markings were partially worn away, and have been “repaired”. It has readings from 40ºF to 100ºF. Altogether, this handsome device is an engaging scientific equipment collectible and a wonderful home décor enhancement for those who enjoy the country, lodge, cabin, primitive, Americana, retro, antique, Victorian decorative aesthetic.
