Antique Holosteric Barometer Made n France by PNHB for Nautical Use c1900 Works! This is an antique holosteric barometer made in France by the French company P. Company known for quality nautical instruments. The barometer dates, I would guess, to about 1900. It is 4 7/8 inches in diameter, has a brass case and an accurate working thermometer. The beveled glass cover is probably original. The barometer does not have and never had feet. It is made to be hung from a hook – better to survive rough seas. The spun brass case is as found and appears to never have been polished. A terrific working barometer with a working thermometer to collect or use. It weighs 1 pound 8 ounces. Holosteric barometer; pnhb in a circle for for naudet-pertuis-hulot-baromètres. Paul naudet, who was france’s premier barometer maker of the second half of the 19th century, marked his units with his marks pnhb. The case has a beautiful rich patina, the face has acquired a patina as well. The beveled crystal is in very good to excellent condition, providing a clear view to the dial beneath.
We were not able to find another buffalo optical pnhb barometer, though we did discover that pnhb is a very desirable name in antique barometers. Holosteric barometer, antique, solid brass. Made in france, mfr by pnhb.

5″ diameter x 2″ deep. Solid brass case is in excellent condition, no dents or dings, just a few beginning tarnish spots. Glass crystal is clear with no scratches. Black lettering on white card dial face, very slight age-related discoloration of face.

Brass hanging loop is perfect. Really nice late 19th century maritime collectible.
