The dial has a pressure range of 20-31 inches and an altitude range of 0-12,000 feet. The outer altitude ring rotates by turning the upper milled brass casework. The beveled glass crystal and brass casing are in very good condition. The silvered dial is tarnished but the markings are perfectly legible – please check the photos carefully. The barometer comes in its original velvet-lined hinged case keep the top and bottom halves closed. The case is very worn with some losses but it has served its purpose of protecting the instrument for well over 100 years. Approx dimensions are 1 7/8 diameter x 5/8 depth. From my Barometer collection: Here we have an Antique , PILLISCHER, LONDON Gentlemen’s Gilt Brass Cased Pocket Aneroid Barometer with Leather Case. Moritz Pillischer and his nephew Jacob were known optical and instrument makers located in London, England. They manufactured a wide range of scientific instruments such as early stick barometers, hydrometers, aneroid barometers, and microscopes, etc. For which they won many scientific medals at the various Expositions around the world. Moritz started the firm in 1850 and then Jacob took over the firm in 1893 when Moritz passed away. The firm operated until the late 1920’s. The dial is marked: PILLISCHER LONDON. The inside of the leather carrying case also has the address: 88 New Bond St, London. The instrument is in Excellent’used’ condition. The brass cased barometer is in working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. The case has a bright aged brass patina from being kept in its original case. The Moroccan Red Leather case is in very good condition with minor wear to the surfaces from use. It has a purple satin lid liner and a purple felt base liner. The hinge and push button clasp are in working order. The dial surface is in very good condition with a very clean appearance and the revolving pointer ring works nicely. He beveled-edge crystal has no scratches or edge nicks. The top crown and bow ring are in good condition. Barometer is 1-7/8 in diameter. The silvered dial is in very good condition with a very clean appearance. No nicks, chips or cracks in the beveled-edge crystal. The revolving outside ring works as it should.
