The whole contained in its original Moroccan leather over wood case, with the original. Blue velvet lining in the lower portion but missing the cream silk lining to the upper portion. Originally with button release, but the button is missing. The case retains virtually all its original gilt lacquer finish, and has minor marks to the dial. One of a kind. Extremely rare, antique, monumental & magnificent wheel or banjo barometer. Baroque style wooden case exhibits marquetry of exceptional quality, and is notable for the fine detail rededer in brass and rich, rouge organic material. Alabaster dial with applied enameled indicators. Made in France during second half of XVIII century. This amazing instrument has details according to this age, but it is in very good condition considering it is more or less 250 years old. You only need two weights to make it works. Boulle marquetry is in good condition with small details, boromether does not work and one enameled indicator has a minimal detail on corner (see detailed pictures). I do not restore it because i consider these details does not affect its extraordinary looking and i want to preserve its authenticity. Actually is almost impossible to find a barometer from XVIII century. Dial diameter is 12.3 inches. It has an overall height of 36. Wide is 22.5 inches and depth is almost 4 inches. Timby’s Victorian Antique Stick Barometer pat. 1857 38 1/2″ long, 2 7/8″ wide, 1 5/8 thick. There is no mercury in the glass tube or the one intact bulb (one is missing). Front glass and printed label are intact; glass tube is intact and visible from front glass; there are two missing screws on the back; the front rosewood is in very good condition and displays very nicely. Here’s a little background I found on the web about the Timby barometer. The first of his two barometer patents, issued in 1857, described an instrument in which the expansion of mercury with increase of temperature would not burst the tube. Nice and thick solid oak wall decor featuring a square dial barometer and. 23″ in height, 7-1/2″ at widest point. Wood finish is good for the age with only a few nicks or dings at most. A couple tiny screws are missing on one side of barometer. And a ding is shown on the metal barometer trim. All seems to be working fine. There is a tiny adjustment screw on back side. Very Rare and Unusual Barograph by Richard Freres ca. Barograph is in excellent condition. It is very heavy as the weight weighs approx 20 pounds. The barograph measures 18 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. There are some minor scratches on the case, the glass looks to be original and the Barograph mechanism works.
