Fabulous clear blue peacock color glass manufactured by Boston & Sandwich company in the 1800s for use as a scientific equipment thermometer shows much better in person. These are rare to find. And even more rare to find the painted Chinese Mandarin figures depicted under palm trees holding flowers or palm fronds in brilliant colors. They date circa 1880. These are missing the thermometer inserts as shown in the glass recess on each pyramid shaped glass block. There are also a few chips and dings as shown in the picture but they do not detract from these peacock blue items. Would be fabulous displayed in a sunny window. Presented for your consideration is this beautiful antique barometer. The barometer has a dark wood casing with a lighter inlaid wood design throughout and an onion style top. The design consists of swirls and floral arrangements at the top, sides and bottom. Two peacock-like birds sitting on a bird bath are pictured underneath the thermometer and a single bird at the bottom of the barometer. The barometer has a thermometer at the top and a silvered barometer dial at the bottom. Dial is marked with R. A door is on the back of the barometer to access the glass tubes. Dates to the mid 19th century. There is also a notch on the back to hang the barometer on a wall. This stunning barometer would make a great addition to any antique collection! A beautiful piece to accent any cabin! Currently the barometer is not working. The liquid in the thermometer has dried up/evaporated and needs replacing. A small chip is out of the glass pane over the thermometer and one of the glass tubes in the back is cracked and chipped. It looks like a small piece is missing just under the barometer dial. Minimal wear to the casing. No chips or cracks in the dial. Overall in VERY GOOD condition for its age. Please refer to the photos for the best details.
