We offer here a 19th century gem: superbly crafted and well preserved barometer/thermometer set in a carved and lathe-turned wood case that is 26.5″ in height and is 12.5″ widest, 2.5 deepest. A weather “app” from 150 to 100 years ago, this one still works beautifully and does it with fabulous presence and style. Wall-hanging case is a work of art. A bit of a Black Forest look to it, but these old beauties are often French made. You’ll want one if you love Black Forest look, or if you lean toward French Country decor or English Manor – or just if you like something old and beautiful to tell you what tomorrow’s weather will be. Definitely gets it right as often as does my iPhone app, and more accurate than the news. Sometimes the old simple methods are the best. My Dad’s home still has the old barometer my Mom bought for him when we were young. And I can still hear the tap-tap as he ticked the glass cover to double check weather before setting up an airplane for a day’s outing together in the air. Or before going hunting. There’s always a history to these old ones. Science tools, sure – but also a beautiful piece of furniture. Just try not to reach out and touch it! Can’t be done. Very good to excellent condition, aneroid barometer is working fine, and the old original thermometer is also undamaged and works. Of course it’s in French and centigrade, owing to the origin and pedigree being fine old French. I see no chips and no breaks. Antique Wall Clock Weather Station with Nautical Motif Wood Frame Not Working. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! Not sure whom the maker of this weather station is. The marking on the back captured in one of the pictures probably captures that identity. Any help in identifying the maker would be appreciated. Your identity would be kept anonymous. My best guess is the piece is from the late 1800s. The barometer has a paper face on it, some water marking. The adjusting screw and arrow still operate. The barometer face is 5 across. Hand on the barometer face is making contact with the arrow to set for tracking change, so cannot tell if the barometer is operating or not. The brass bezel holding the glass over the barometer face is securely in place. The glass is securely in place with no cracks or blistering. We do not think that the. Barometer component is in working condition. What makes this weather station unique is the great time only clock on the top of the piece. The clock face is 3.5 across. Nice brass ring around the face, the glass over the face is intact, no cracking or blistering. The clock has an escapement wheel brass movement. No makers name or mark on the back plate of the movement. Runs for a few seconds, but then stops. The spring feels sound when keyed. The movement will come with a vintage wind key. So, the clock movement is being noted as being in not running condition. The brass back over the movement is still in place. The hands on the clock match and look appropriate to the clock. Nice looking thermometer on the weather station as well. Built in to the barometer face and see how it curves around. The mercury is in place and seems to be tracking the temperature. The glass for the thermometer is intact, no cracking or blistering. The weather station has a great looking solid mahogany wood case on it. Nice pressed on and carved detailing at the top and bottom of the case. Some finish loss, but still has a nice look to it. Looks like the left arm of the top of the anchor broke off at one time and was repaired. The wood case is pieced together below the clock component with two tacks and needs some tightening attention. The brass hanger is still at the top of the piece. This is a great weather station just waiting for the right owner. The weather station is 19″ tall, by 10.5″ across, by 2.5 wide. Antique black forest weather station with hunter motif (deer is missing antlers) germany #5113. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! An ebayer recently selected this item, but then never paid for it. Not sure of the age or maker of this weather station. My best guess is the piece is from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The weather station was made in germany as noted on the back of the case. There is also the number 5113 noted on the case. The weather station has a great looking wood case to it. The case may be made of walnut, but not sure so you be the judge. Have not come across a weather station with a hunter’s motif in a long time. It has the deer, dog head, pouch, and guns carved into the case along with oak leaves and other foliage. All the detailing and the case seem to be there with the exception of the deer antlers. The detailing on the deer is amazing. Even all the legs are there which were very delicately carved, no missing pieces or repairs to the legs. The thermometer has silver liquid in it (probably mercury) that seems to be capturing the temperature still. Cannot say if it is accurate. The porcelain dial behind the thermometer is still intact and has “c” and “f” on it for celsius and farenheit respectively. The glass over the barometer face is intact, no cracking or blistering. There is some scratching to the glass. The barometer seems to be operating too, cannot speak to its’ accuracy. The needle to note the current barometer position still works as well, just a little tight. The hanger is still at the top of the piece.
