Antique aneroid barometer by Dollond & Aitchison of London. Octagonal scalloped shape, nice high-shine finish on the wood, wall mountable. Plate reads, Presented to W. By his colleagues in H. Considered historically significant to have both company names as the maker. While Dollond, a company known for its high-quality instruments, previously produced aneroid barometers, the company shifted focus primarily towards Aitchison’s retail optometry (binoculars, eyeglasses) after the 1927 merger, allowing for a very short window of opportunity to produce or market scientific instruments together. Some wear with age, but amazing condition for almost 100 years old. No deep chips or scratches, some surface wear as photographed, no split wood, wear on hardware. Very interesting early L. Casella barometer housed in a brass case with heavy beveled glass crystal. Rotating bezel will set the indicator to the current barometric reading. Thank you for looking. I will only deliver within the United States.

No damage to this piece, however I do not know if it actually works.

It’s very interesting. I have so many questions.. However the positioning of the mercury and the two little dots consistent with the engravings Anthony two little pins or nails in the tubes can be moved up and down the market, the high and low spots with a little magnet I have done this. It’s interesting that there’s both mercury and alcohol in the tubes is generally just a rather peculiar and interesting little item. 13 inches long made of copper and the backing is white glass i think. Perfect for the News weather girl in your life!
