With barometric range from 23 to 31, meteorological headings “Rain”, “Change”, “Fair”, and altimeter readings. The see-through crystal reveals the inner workings. Also marked “Compensated” on the lower edge. Outer edge of case is marked 750 which is the English hallmark for 75% gold, the equivalent of 18 karat. The back of the case is engraved with a shield in the center surrounded by a leaf and floral design. The barometer is approximately 1 in diameter. CONDITION: Barometer appears to not be working. A Gorgeous Rare Antique Italian Rococo Carved Wood Gold GiltGerman Lufft. The item is about 40″ x 18″ wide at widest part. The carving and the gold are opulent and rich. The back of the wood has a sticker that reads “made in Italy”. The barometer reads Lufft Made in Germany. As shown in last pic the gold has a little crack, minor flaw in my view. The thermometer works just great. I’m not sure about if the barometer works because I’m not an expert. As shown in last pic the paint on gesso has a small line crack, which is a minor flaw in my view. The wall hook on the back needs a screw. The item is in overall excellent condition. This antique barometer in gold gilt wood frame/case is in superb and excellent condition. There is no structural damage or chips to the hand carved wood. The wood is top painted gold with and under color of deep crimson red. The glass front cover is super clean and free from any chips or scratching. The illustration on the paper dial is super crisp and clear and is not faded at all. The barometer was made in Germany by Specialwerk. As mentioned, the condition is excellent and I think it would be very difficult to find one in better condition. The piece measures approximately 34.75 tall. Offered is an 18 carat gold miniature barometer, altimeter, compass compendium. It is Hallmarked with the sponsor’s mark B&S (probably Barnett & Scott), a Leopards head (for London Assay Office), the date letter Q (1891 – 1892), a crown, and 18. The outside diameter is 32.25-mm (1.25-inches). The spring hunter case opens by depressing the knurled knob. The knob is also used to rotate the altitude chapter ring. Note that when the barometer was placed in a ziplock bag, and a slight pressure was applied, the needle moved. The back of case is monogrammed.
