An antique, Regency or Georgian, early 19th-century c. 10″ by 38″ by 2. The top canter brass finial has been replaced. Decorative; the gauges do not work (no mercury in the thermometer and a glass barometer piece is broken).

From my Barometer collection: Here we have an Antique, J. BROWN, GLASGOW Gentlemen’s Gilt Brass Cased Pocket Aneroid Barometer – Altimeter with Leather Case. James Brown was an optician and scientific instrument maker located in Glasgow, Scotland from approx. 1871 to the very early 1900’s. The dial is marked. The instrument is in Excellent’used’ condition. The brass cased barometer is in very good working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. The case has a bright aged brass patina from being kept in its original case. The back of the case has fancy script initials of the person who owned this (probably a gift). The Moroccan Red Leather case is in good condition with minor wear to the surfaces from use. It has a green felt bottom liner and green satin top liner. The push button clasp is working but has los. Its leather covering from use. The dial surface is in very good condition with a clean appearance. The revolving pointer ring is moved by using knurled knob at the top and works nicely. The beveled-edge crystal has no scratches or edge nicks. The top crown and bow ring are in good condition. A very early, Maker marked, working barometer for your collection! Offering a treat in this antique piece by J. Measurements: total diameter 9. Condition: vintage condition with wear consistent with age, use, storage, & production, as shown, including patina to the brass, a missing screw (there’s a tiny metal post that would fit through the hole where the missing screw is, but to do so renders the other screw holes offset – because of this, there’s some ability to raise the cover away from the body, but it’s secure), etc. The face has expected crazing throughout, and the glass has wonderful bubbles and such consistent with how it was made. While the glass and such have been cleaned, we left the warmth of the patina to the brass pieces and wood as found. See the images for a pictorial description. We aren’t sure how to test it, so it is being offered the way it is. It will be wrapped with great care. Thanks for looking and happy collecting! The instrument is in Excellent’used’ condition. The brass cased barometer is in working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. The case has a bright aged brass patina from being kept in its original case. Unfortunately, only the bottom half of the Moroccan Red Leather case remains. That 1/2 is in very good condition with minor wear to the surfaces from use and has a green felt liner. The push button clasp is located in this 1/2 piece. The dial surface is in very good condition with a very clean appearance. The revolving pointer ring is moved by using knurled knob at the top and works nicely. He beveled-edge crystal has no scratches or edge nicks. The top crown and bow ring are in good condition.
