The carved wood case is entirely hand done, artistry of the old Swiss carvers. The aneroid barometer is noted in French (Swiss French regions) and is in working order, as is the thermometer. The barometer is one of the finest we’ve had, and is a working aneroid model which, with case, dates c. An exceptionally fine example of the carver’s art, it is complete and hasn’t any chips or loss to note. Full measurements are 31″ tall, 21″ wide and a full 3 depth. The face of the barometer, itself, is 8 in diameter. One might consider replacing it with a clock, in fact – so gorgeous is this big carved beauty. We’re easy to deal with. You are very important! We offer here a 19th century gem: superbly crafted and well preserved barometer/thermometer set in a carved and lathe-turned wood case that is 26.5″ in height and is 12.5″ widest, 2.5 deepest. A weather “app” from 150 to 100 years ago, this one still works beautifully and does it with fabulous presence and style. Wall-hanging case is a work of art. A bit of a Black Forest look to it, but these old beauties are often French made. You’ll want one if you love Black Forest look, or if you lean toward French Country decor or English Manor – or just if you like something old and beautiful to tell you what tomorrow’s weather will be. Definitely gets it right as often as does my iPhone app, and more accurate than the news. Sometimes the old simple methods are the best. My Dad’s home still has the old barometer my Mom bought for him when we were young. And I can still hear the tap-tap as he ticked the glass cover to double check weather before setting up an airplane for a day’s outing together in the air. Or before going hunting. There’s always a history to these old ones. Science tools, sure – but also a beautiful piece of furniture. Just try not to reach out and touch it! Can’t be done. Very good to excellent condition, aneroid barometer is working fine, and the old original thermometer is also undamaged and works. Of course it’s in French and centigrade, owing to the origin and pedigree being fine old French. I see no chips and no breaks. There are no splits or losses to the case, all carved and hand made of wood. The aneroid barometer is working, as noted, and thermometer is without damage and working, too.
