Here we have an Antique RICHARD FRERES, PARIS, FRANCE 1890, Barograph in Polished Mahogany & Glass Case. This instrument is a barograph’clockwork’ instrument made by Richard Freres of Paris, France circa 1890. Felix Richard began making aneroid barographs in Paris in 1845. His son, Jules Richard, took over the business in 1876. The firm began trading as. 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 x. ” x 6″ aneroid instrument. Mounted inside a very nice polished Mahogany and Glass case with a nickel-plated carrying handle and 2 large brass closure hooks to fix the hinged lid in place. The instrument sits upon a brass plate which is marked’Brevetes SGDG’, an abbreviation in French for’Breveté Sans Garantie du Gouvernement’ which means Patented Without State Guarantee. The initials RF are also enclosed in the. Shield like logo and below is marked PARIS. RF’ stands for the barometer firm of the Richard Brothers (Richard Freres). The serial number of this instrument is. The Richard Freres firm was located at 8 Impasse Fessart in Paris. They also had an importing office during the same era in London, England. Most of the stylus and pillar parts of the instrument are made of solid brass. Has a replaces tip to which I guess you add a few drops of ink. There is a clockwork mechanism contained within the graph canister that drives its movement. This instrument comes with the winding key and I have tested it to verify the clock mechanism works. The outside of the case measures approx. 7L x 4-3/8W x 5-1/4H. No cracks, breaks or repairs to the case. Please remember to leave Feedback. I will gladly reciprocate. The clockwork mechanism needs repairing. I opened it up today to show the interior as best as I could, there is a key, not shown. The base is cast iron, the top tin and it is in good condition.
