Here we have a beautiful inlaid mahogany George III mahogany stick barometer made by Francis Pelligrino c. It measures 38 1/2 inches tall and is 6 1/2 inches wide at the widest part of the pediment. It has a pediment top with a brass vase finial, above a polished brass plate, with barometric gauge and sliding cursor. The body with exposed tube, finished to the bottom with a domed cistern cover. The body with good boxwood and ebony checker stringing. The barometer is in generally good condition for it’s age. There is one piece of trim missing from the pediment not visible when the instrument is hung on the wall (see arrow in 2 close-up photos). A crack and s small chip at the bottom of the wooden cistern. The top of the cistern is detached. This piece displays quite well now but a bit of restoration would make it functional. An exceptional, highly collectible 1800s Francis M. Vintage French Rosewood Inlaid Banjo Weather Station. By Francis Guerault 1935. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! Quite a nice looking case on this Vintage French Weather Station here. It was made by a Francis Guerault of France in 1935. What a wood case this weather station has! The case is made of a rosewood or mahogany wood. Check out the wood inlay at the top and bottom of the case as well as along the perimeter. There certainly is some loss of veneer to the the case. Most notably on the bottom of the base of the wheel where the barometer resides. There is some cracking to the veneer and a split to the case on the right side near the base of the thermometer. The rear wood door of the case is securely attached by two hinges. The lock latch is still in place near the top of the case. The old metal hanger is still on the back of the barometer case as well. The numbers and names on the face of the barometer still show well. The barometer hand is still in place as is the fancy gold scrolled hand to set next to the larger hand to note the last reading one had. The glass over the barometer face is cracked across horizontally. There is a silver colored metal bezel around the barometer face. The setting hand still moves when activated by adjusting knob. Not sure if the barometer component of the weather station is operational or not, so going to say the barometer component is not working. Unfortunately the glass tube for the thermometer is broke at the top end. The red fluid is separated within the glass tube. Brass bezel and glass over the face of the barometer were not with the weather station when it was acquired. The thermometer at the top of the Weather Station is in place as is the glass and wood frame around it. Has a nice looking plate that shows celcius and farenheit with a silver trim plate around it. The mercury is still in the thermometer as well. So, thermometer not operational. The glass tube is still in the back of the case and has mercury in it as well. There is a glass slides that go into the tube that is in place as well. This is a great project Weather Station here just waiting for the right person to restore it to the piece’s former glory. The Weather Station is 39-1/8″ tall (another 1 inch with the hanger bracket), by 11-7/8″ across, by 21-7/8 wide. The barometer face is 7/25 across.
