Antique Edwardian Carved Walnut Banjo Barometer. 19.5″ long, 9″ diameter. Condition: In overall good condition with some missing parts. Wonderful antique French Victorian to Edwardian era Black Forest style hand carved walnut 26 wall barometer with thermometer on enamel plaque, solid hardwood with leaves & fruit or berries and all in fabulous condition! Barometers not quite as much of a household staple as they once were with all of the weather data available on our smart phones and such but they really do make attractive decorative accents! I’ve added two others this week, one Black Forest with foliage & bird figure, the other also carved but with more of a Neo-Classical look to it and this one. This just in from France, carved in solid, heavy hardwood that looks like it must be walnut. The original thermometer mounted on an enamel plaque, the barometer itself framed in shiny polished brass with text in French and a maker stamp on the back. Not an expert on barometer marks so I’ve not been able to find the maker but it does appear to read “EA or AE Modele Depose”. A fabulous decorative accent, don’t miss it! Very good to excellent condition. Possibly a tiny nip or two to the wood but I see no larger chips, no cracks or warping to the solid hardwood case. There is a bit of denting around the brass frame of the barometer face. All of the barometer mechanism appear to be intact and in fine working order but we’ve not tested it. There are two tiny hairline cracks in the thermometer enamel plaque, just below the bulb of the thermometer itself. See pictures for measurements. We’re easy to deal with. You are very important! Amazing antique Edwardian era 1880’s German black forest carved dragon wall hanging barometer/thermometer. Measures about 19″ long by 12″ wide with original French porcelain thermometer and French glass covered barometer. Beautifully carved and detailed dragon with scales, drapes, leaves and flowers. The piece is die stamped and numbered 559 on the back. In very good to excellent antique condition. There’s a small 1/2″to 1/4″ piece chipped on the top wing tip of the dragon. Has nice dark patination to the wood finish. The temp guage and barometer seem to be working. The barometer may need to be re-calibrated or adjusted. See pictures for further description. Charming antique to vintage Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved 23 1/4 tall wall barometer & thermometer with Fruits of the Hunt themed dog, wild boar & game bird figures, pierced or reticulated vines & foliage and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! Not quite as old as some we offer, you can tell from the moderately less detailed figures but the theme is always popular and the condition of this one is superb. A rich darker finish, marvelous hunt motif and sure to please. This one has the original thermometer mounted on a slightly convex enamel on copper plaque with enamel numerals/markings. The barometer itself with open view mechanism and outer card dial with markings in French. A lovely piece, dont miss it! Very good to excellent condition. Possibly a small nip or two but I see no larger chips, damage or repairs to note. Original barometer & thermometer intact and appear in fine working order but weve not tested for accuracy. Antique Edwardian Era French or Swiss Black Forest 18 Wall Barometer & Thermometer, Carved Leaves. All items and photos are the express property of Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. Unfortunately, a lot of times I catch myself paying more attention to the settings rather than the plots. All of the beautiful decorative items they use as props, we’ve even had a studio or two ask us about sending pieces out on approval to use in sets. In any event, you nearly always see a great old barometer hanging on the wall and this week we’re adding a few more great old Victorian to Edwardian pieces. This one impressive, French or Swiss as the barometer dial text would indicate and hand carved in the Black Forest style with reticulated case & foliate accents. A brass framed aneroid barometer on the lower end, the paper dial with French text. The original centigrade thermometer is intact and mounted on a milk glass panel. Of course, we really don’t have time to test the accuracy (and the weather here in Southern California is pretty much the same everyday) but they always make simply fabulous decorative accents and, with the myriad of sources for the weather, not many of us would be checking these to determine how our day is going to be. The card barometer dial is a bit stained and there is a bit of wear to the wood finish. It appears that there is a glued repair to a break on the left side of the case, the lower leaves & vine to the left of the barometer itself. Possible a small leaf nip or two but, as you can see, the piece is in overall wonderful shape. There is a faintly visible maker stamp on the black metal backing of the barometer, it looks like a horse or unicorn over a sun and clouds but I haven’t found a maker reference to match to the mark.
