Offering a treat in this antique piece by J. Measurements: total diameter 9. Condition: vintage condition with wear consistent with age, use, storage, & production, as shown, including patina to the brass, a missing screw (there’s a tiny metal post that would fit through the hole where the missing screw is, but to do so renders the other screw holes offset – because of this, there’s some ability to raise the cover away from the body, but it’s secure), etc. The face has expected crazing throughout, and the glass has wonderful bubbles and such consistent with how it was made. While the glass and such have been cleaned, we left the warmth of the patina to the brass pieces and wood as found. See the images for a pictorial description. We aren’t sure how to test it, so it is being offered the way it is. It will be wrapped with great care. Thanks for looking and happy collecting! Antique Rosewood Banjo Weather Station George IV Circa 1825 Walterston Edinburgh Scotland. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! Great piece here ready to be displayed as is or for you next restoration project. Quite an Antique Scottish Weather Station here. It was made by Walterston of Edinburgh, Scotland. The piece dates to circa 1825. You be the judge before acquiring. What a wood case this weather station has! The case is probably made of rosewood. Check out the beautiful brass and glass trim on the front of the piece. There certainly is some minor loss of finish to the the case. The decorative top is still in place at the top of the case. The brass or wood finial that would have been in the middle is there as well. There appears to have been a wood trim piece at the bottom of the weather station that is no longer there. Should be some sort of needle in the top gauge which measures humidity that is no longer there. The rear wood door of the case is in place, but not attached by the brass hinges that need some attention. The latch to hold the closed door in place is there as well. The old metal hanger is still on the back of the barometer case as well. The glass tube in the back of the case is laying in there loosely, not held in place. The numbers and names on the silver metal face are engraved or pressed into the face, not just stenciled or painted on. The barometer hand is still in place as is the hand to set next to the larger hand to not the last reading one had. The hand still moves when activated by the bone knob below the face. Not sure if the barometer component of the weather station is operational or not, so going to say the barometer component is not working. The brass bezel and glass over the face of the barometer are intact and with the the weather station when it was acquired. The thermometer at the top of the Weather Station is in place as is the glass and wood frame around it. The mercury is still in the thermometer as well. Cannot speak to the accuracy of the thermometer. The glass tube is still in the back of the case and has a little mercury left in it as well. There are two glass slides that go into the tubes and they are in place as well. This is a great project Weather Station here just waiting for the right person to restore it to the piece’s former glory. The Weatherston Weather Station is 39″ tall, by 10″ across, by 2.5 wide.
