Lufft was the “Gold Standard” of German instrumentation, famous for providing movements to the most elite scientific firms in Europe. The open-center dial offers a captivating “skeleton” view of the polished brass bellows and intricate mechanical linkages, all in excellent functional condition. The Casing: Solid Hand-Carved Ebony. The instrument is housed in a substantial, circular frame carved from genuine solid Ebony (Blackwood). Unlike more common stained woods, true Ebony is prized for its extreme density, natural ink-black luster, and “sinking” weight. The frame features exquisite hand-carved foliate relief work, showing the incredible skill required to work such a hard, precious timber. Bezel: Encased in a heavy, polished brass bezel that beautifully contrasts with the dark Ebony wood. This piece is in remarkable antique condition.
