It has a perpetual eight day movement which gives the month, day of month, and day of the week, changing by itself, connected to the upper mechanical eight day running and striking movement. It has an inside label on the inside of the front door giving directions for setting up the clock. Rare 18th century double bubble or double bulb Sand- or Hour-Glass also called a Clepsammia in good original condition, still works! Hour-Glasses from this period are difficult to find; if you collect these objects you know. Measuring 9-14 inches in height, this hour-glass makes a statement. The glass spheres are padded on both ends by dark red felt pads. The fife slender pillars are turned wooden rods on a lathe. Just a beautiful science instrument used around the second half of the 18th century. At that time, the two glass spheres were connected by a “knot” around a wax seal. A truly rare find and an addition to any collection of hour glasses or scientific instruments. What you see is what you get. It is one of the earliest model FASHION clocks made by Seth Thomas, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CLOCK IS A’TRANSITIONAL’ CLOCK, HAVING BOTH LABELS FROM PLYMOUTH, AND THOMASTON, CT. It measures 27 x 14 inches, with 7 1/2 inch diameter dials. This clock has a perpetual calendar movement, which changes at the end of each month, and also compensates for leap year every four years. It has a key lock case. It runs, but the strike needs a governor adjustment on it to slow it when it does strike. Appears an amateur clock repair person did some repairs to it. It has a very, very limited chipping on the case veneer, but still is a wonderful early FASHION clock. This is one of the difficult FASHION Models to acquire. So not sure what the value is today.
