Cottage Barometers are a particular US phenomenon, and were made in very large quantities from around 1890 through 1930, usually by Chas. Large, Brooklyn, NY” and “J. Large & Son, Brooklyn, NY” and “Franklin Mills Co. Very occasionally they are dated, either on the painted tin face, or on the printed script on the reverse. The more commonly found ones have some variation of “Standard Barometer” or “Cottage Barometer” on the face. This example, which, like all the others measures 8 1/2″ x 3″, and has an iron pillar on each side, is one of the rarer ones, being marked “ADMIRAL”. It is only the second one with this name that I have found; I have several more that I will be putting up for sale, in the coming weeks. Antique Cottage Barometer Storm Glass & Thermometer U. Antique Cottage Thermometer also called Storm Glass & Thermometer from the late 1800’s. The glass is excellent on both the thermometer and Storm Glass. This barometer measures 8 3/4″ long and 3 1/8″ wide. There is a sliver of wood missing on the very bottom left side on the back(see photo). Barometer is comprised of metal and wood. Great shape for 140 years old. All sales are final. The 3 inch dial has roman numerals, and if you look inside the dial you will see its alarm dial. The brass movement is signed S. On the front plate. It is interesting that the movement says Plymouth, Conn, which was before 1866, when the name of Plymouth was changed to Thomaston, while the label has the later Thomaston, Conn. The movement was made a few years before the case, and stored until it was needed to fit this case. The clock measures 9 x 7 inches, with its case in very good conditon. This is a late 1800s Pools Cottage Barometer. These are quite accurate. It has the temperature and a barometer showing the weather change. In really nice found condition. Stand out at 9 tall from wood to wood rope and bottom. Metal rods between and nice information on the back that is missing some of the piece.
