ANTIQUE ALTIMETER BAROMETER GEBRs CAMINADA ROTTERDAM. Brass with rotating outer scale marked 0-36. Inner scale from 52-79, labeled Barometre (PBHN in a circle) Holosterique, Altimetrique Ccompense. Made by Gebrs Caminada, Rotterdam. The diameter is 4.75 inches by 2 inches high. I assume the model Altimetrique refers to altimeter. It has a very dark brass patina that I have left in place and not polished. The barometer appears to work as the pressure changed during rain and dry weather and is also responsive to a plastic bag test pressure test. Of Milan Italy, leaves his homeland with his brothers and establishes a workshop in Delft in 1788. Just like his father, J. Caminada specialised in the production of barometers and drawing compasses. At that time he received many commissions from A. Lipkens, who in 1843 was appointed director of the Royal Academy in Delft. Around the middle of the 19th century his instruments were on view at various exhibitions. The company of J. Caminada was dissolved in 1878. Antique 19c english wheel banjo barometer figural mop inlay signed l caminada manchester. Good condition, replaced knob and replaced lower wood moulding on thermometer case, kind of rough epoxy mould. Barometer lens missing & thermometer & glass cover also missing, case has 1 top right back edge patch, top lens is cracked, contains no mercury, one empty glass tube remains in rear, 40×12, wgt 7 lbs.
