It is signed by the maker (or retailer), H. 42 Piccadilly on the front. It has a silvered dial and a blued steel hand. I would estimate it was made some time between 1860 and 1870. It stands approximately 8 inches tall and approximately 6 1/4 inches wide at the base. It doesn’t appear to be in working order because when I tip the barometer 90 degrees clockwise, the blued steel arm moves significantly. That said, I believe a clock or barometer restorer could bring it back to working order. This lovely Victorian desk barometer is heavy and would be a great addition to anyone’s collection. This early rare admiral fitzroy barometer, is an elaborately carved walnut case. The scales are mostly made of paper (except temperature scale) bearing a synopsis of the admiral’s remarks on weather forecasting. The barometer in addition to a syphon tube barometer with two register pointers, contain a mercury thermometer and storm glass. The barometer is in fine to excellent condition. No restoration has been performed.
