Antique Banjo Barometer Mfg by Lingham Bros Worcester, MA – Solid Wood and brass. Needs a clip under the hygrometer, a new set key to turn the brass hand and new mercury column installed and calibrated. Some wood is dry, slightly cracked. Banjo face is 12 dia.

From my Barometer collection: Here we have an Antique , ELLIOTT BROS. LONDON Gentlemen’s Gilt Brass Cased Aneroid Barometer & Altimeter. The Elliott Brothers company operated in London, England from 1834 – 1921. They were Electrical instrument makers, Mathematical instrument makers, Optical instrument makers and Philosophical instrument makers, specializing in barometers, microscopes, theodolites, transits, etc. The dial is marked with:’COMPENSATED ELLIOTT BROS. The instrument is in very good’used’ condition. The brass cased barometer is in working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. The case shows all of the original aged’gilt’ brass patina. The dial surface is in very good condition with a very clean appearance. And the revolving altimeter ring works nicely. He beveled-edge crystal is in very good condition with only one short faint scratch, but no cracks or edge nicks. The top crown and bow ring are in good condition. Barometer is 2 in diameter. Unfortunately, the original Moroccan Red Leather case has seen lots of wear. The small brass hinge has pulled out from the lid and the button for the clasp has gone missing over the last 150+ years! The Elliott Brothers company operated in London, England from 1834 – 1921. Lectrical instrument makers, Mathematical instrument makers, Optical instrument makers and Philosophical instrument makers, specializing in barometers, microscopes, theodolites, transits, etc. The dial is marked: COMPENSATED ELLIOTT BROS. This large diameter and thick instrument was typically taken into the field by engineers or meteorologists to perform scientific studies regarding weather patterns, hurricanes, etc. These were also used by Surveyors for use in mapping geological formations, etc. The instrument is in very good’used’ condition. The brass cased barometer is in working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. The case shows some a very nice aged-brass finish. No dents in the case. The silvered dial is in very good condition with a very clean appearance and light age tarnish. No nicks, chips or cracks in the beveled-edge crystal. The revolving outside altimeter ring works as it should. The top crown and bow ring have gone missing over the years but could be easily replaced. Barometer is 2-7/8″ in diameter x 1-1/16″ thick. The back of the case is marked: William F. Was the acronym for the Grand Army of the Republic as it was known before and during the Civil War so maybe this gentleman was a military surveyor or weatherman! Nice complete and working barometer!! In the center of the face is the barometer movement, all in brass. The barometer Hand is blued steel, and the index is in gold, adjustable with a brass knob through the glass. On the back is the original paper tag, Brown with age, but readable. Morath Brothers Watch and Clock Manufactures established 1839 Liverpool. Impeccable condition especially for its age. Taylor Brothers Chandelier Parlor Triple sided Thermometer. Made to hang in the middle of a room and viewed from all sides. Brass or bronze with applied Zinnia flowers. Six and one half inches long, one and three quarters inches wide and original chain is seven inches long. The glass tube is all intact, still full of original liquid and works perfectly. Original surface and patina, I washed the dust off. This thermometer is a rare find in working condition. Please look at the detailed pictures.
