Both glass pieces are intact. There is a less than. 5 crack at the center of dial. This is a non working instrument. Measuring 30″ long and 10″ wide at widest. Glass has a beveled edge. Nice and thick solid oak wall decor featuring a square dial barometer and. 23″ in height, 7-1/2″ at widest point. Wood finish is good for the age with only a few nicks or dings at most. A couple tiny screws are missing on one side of barometer. And a ding is shown on the metal barometer trim. All seems to be working fine. There is a tiny adjustment screw on back side. Welcome to Antiques & Moore! Wonderful antique cast pewter frame with scarab motif in Art & Crafts design. Engraved as a race trophy with inscription “Vaddolob 1908, 1ste Pramie”. Original works with beveled glass cover. The barometer frame and glass are in excellent condition. Appears to be working properly. Measures 1 3/4″ deep, 9″ long and 7 wide. The face is 3 3/4 in diameter. Weighs 1.8 pounds. Born into a Jewish family in 1871, Mogens Ballin was trained as a painter and travelled extensively in France (where he befriended Paul Gauguin and others) and Italy in the early 1890’s. In 1893 he converted to Catholicism and became increasingly interested in the symbolist movement which he helped bring to Denmark. In 1900 he opened his metal workshop, idealistically wanting to use not only silver, but also cheaper metals such as copper and pewter to make the products more affordable. Stylistically, he was inspired by Jugendstil and ideologically by the Art and Crafts movement, declaring in a letter that he drew inspiration from “William Morris, John Ruskin and their peers”. Ballin hired a number of artists, including Georg Jensen before he became famous in his own right. The Hertz shop still exists in central Copenhagen.
