This early 19th century English Nottingham barometer is a rare and authentic piece made in the United Kingdom. With a Sheraton style design and intricate mahogany inlay, it exudes a sense of classic elegance and craftsmanship typical of that era. Beautiful sea shell inlaid throughout the mahogany. At the top and bottoms are carved medallions and on their side are hand carved roses and leaves. We did find a small chip to the carving of the3 0″ tall by 4 ½” wide thermometer. The milk glass backing to the thermometer is hand painted and although there are no breaks to the thermometer there is a space in the reading and some smudging to the edges of the milkglass. Overall this hand blown glass thermometer measures 15″ long by 2 ¼” diameter with a brass cap. The rest of this 34″ long by 7″ wide Victorian Thermometer is in very good condition, but there are two separations just above the dial. The Barometer is in working condition and measures 4 ½ in diameter. There is some wear to the steel dial and it is hard to read the writing. Overall this pair of Hand Carved, Black Forest Thermometer & Barometer are in very good original condition and we have listed them without any reserve.. During our research we have been informed it certainly dates from the 19th century. The case of a black forest origin. A wooden oak case with the intricate oak leaves and acorns. Condition: Considering the age, the overall visual condition is excellent and is not subject to. Any major blemishes except. A couple of minor nibbles. The round Porcelain Dial on the Aneroid Barometer measures 8 in diameter and still has its original beveled glass. The 10 long brass backed Thermometer also retains the original glass, however we believe the glass thermometer is an old replacement. Some of the screws holding on the top bracket for the thermometer have also been replaced.
