Barometer measures 40″ tall, and 10 1/2″ wide. Great piece of scientific weather history! Minor wear may be found due to age, but overall it looks very nice. Wood looks to be mahogany. He has had this barometer for 40+ years, where it hung on a wall in the basement. Ups has always packed fragile pieces very well for me in the past with no issues whatsoever, but i want to make that clear. Are looking at an. Antique 1800’s comitti holborn mahogany inlaid wheel. It was in his house for many years. I’ve displayed it in my dining room, with no. Sun, not much light, to prevent aging. Hello, i have here an aneroid barometer by james w queen and co. These were manufactured 1859 to 1896, by what i could find on the website of national museum of american history. I dug around quite a bit and was unable to find out more about this particular one. Looks to be of brass and the back looks shows a little wear, perhaps from being in pockets. The front plate is in very good condition. It appears it needs to be set/calibrated with a small screwdriver. Elevation goes up to 10,000 feet. I tried getting a real close picture of the writing on the front, but it just wasn’t coming out as well as i had hoped. Here from a local estate is this great antique 1800’s barometer & thermometer combination instrument made by j. When this was made j. Hicks was the premier maker of these type of instruments in the late 1800’s.

This model was made to hang on the wall. I really know very little about this instrument, but will describe as best as i can. It measures 6.625″ across x 2.125″ thick. It is very heavy by weight.

The curved thermometer at the bottom of the face is complete and works great. The barometer dial has 2 hands. One of the hands is loose and has fell to the bottom of inside the face glass. I have not checked it barometer to see if works correctly. The front glass face plate is easily removed by 3 screws holding the front trim ring. The glass is in excellent condition. The fancily engraved dial face looks very fine. The outer case does have some 120+ years of aging patina and wear. This was one of the first things i noticed at a recent estate sale i went to. I absolutely loved it, even with the damaged glass over the barometer.

I have never came across such a beautifully designed wood/en barometer/thermometer. There’s what looks to be a few specks and places of paint splatter in places. But, most of the wood looks to be intact. The knobs at each end are worn on the tip.

Even with the wear i see and the broken glass, in my opinion, it’s still such an old/antique, uniquely designed… But, beautifully designed, piece to display. The piece the thermometer is attached to is made of a… My husband thought it might be a porcelain type of material but i don’t think it is. But the thermometer looks to be in good working order.
I do know earlier when i went out, it was rainy and we’ve had scattered showers today. Someone could replace the glass. On the bottom of the barometer face, in small, fine, print ‘germany’ i also noticed on the back, imprinted in the material is a number ‘151′ where the barometer is located on the back, it’s a metal material on the backside of it. Tallest part, tip of the knob on the bottom to the tip of the knob on the top, it measures approximately 17 1/4 inches. There’s some wear on the wood in places. Again, the tips of the knobs have worn and at the top arch there’s a place on the front where it looks like it might have rubbed against a rough surface at one time.

But, you might be able to see this in one of the photo’s uploaded. 12 photos uploaded hoping you can tell more about it and the condition. I haven’t taken time to clean and it’s dusty in places. Thanks for your interest and looking.
