A wonderful wall Aneroid Barometer by the J. Lizars Company, Glasgow, Scotland c1900’s. John Lizar was an optician who opened an Optical Store in 1830 in Glasgow, Scotland where he produced quality Barometers, Telescope, Binoculars, Glasses and Cameras and many other optical & scientific items. When he died in 1879 the business was taken over by Michael Ballentine and the company continued to make the same scientific quality equipment. The barometer is on a beautiful walnut back and is 29 inches long, the width of the top is 5.75 inches and the bottom is 5.5 inches across. The barometer has a silver plated dial and the over all width of the barometer at that point is 9 inches and the glass measures 6.5 inches in diameter. The boxed thermometer has a silver plated plate and is 7.5 inches long and 1.75 inches wide and works fine. The barometer has been pressure tested and reads fine. There is a very tiny dent at the base of thermometer which you may never notice but it is there. This is a beautiful quality Scottish Barometer. A treat for the barometer collector or to hang in your office or study. Please check out the other items I have listed. All questions are welcome and answered promptly.
