From my Barometer collection: Here we have an Antique, PILLISCHER , LONDON, Gentleman’s Gilt Brass Compensated Aneroid Pocket Barometer Altimeter, 1850 – 1920. Moritz Pillischer and his nephew Jacob were known optical and instrument makers located in London, England. They manufactured a wide range of scientific instruments such as early stick. Barometers, hydrometers, aneroid barometers, and microscopes, etc. For which they won many scientific medals at the various Expositions around the world. Moritz started the firm in 1850 and then Jacob took over the firm in 1893 when Moritz passed away. The firm operated until the late 1920’s. The dial is marked: STORMY RAIN CHANGE FAIR VERY DRY COMPENSATED PILLISCHER LONDON. This instrument is in Very Good’used’ condition. The gilt brass cased barometer is in working order and has been verified by use of the’plastic bag’ test. The case shows a little wear with intermittent tarnish. The silvered dial is in very good condition with a very clean appearance. No nicks, chips or cracks in the beveled-edge crystal. The revolving outside ring works as it should. The top crown and bow ring are in very good condition. Barometer is 2 in diameter. Nice complete and working barometer!! THAT MANY SELLERS TRY TO MARKET AS AN ANTIQUE.
