ANTIQUE POCKET BAROMETER ALTIMETER. This is a late 19th century pocket Balloonist or early Explorer aneroid barometer altimeter. The barometer scale goes from 15-31 inches and the altimeter scale ranges from zero to 20,000 feet adjusted by a bezel with a dialing knob. The body of the device is made from gilded brass with minimal wear and tear. The whole device comes in a well fitted leather and wooden case. Unfortunately the locking system was damaged over time. The device was most likely made by one of the British scientific instruments maker from that period. What makes this altimeter rare is the high altitude range of the dial which is very hard to find for such a small device. The device still showing differences in the barometric pressure and altitude variation. The dimensions of the case are: 50 mm diameter and 12 mm height. Pictures are part of the description.
