Antique Barometer Stand with a Suspended Glass Barometer. The stand was fashioned from a “Worsted Bobbin Flange” (thread spool) from the Calder Valley Mills in Manchester England… The 3 posts that hold the top & bottom together are wooden pins that the spools, or bobbins, turned on. The bottom has green felt with gold lettering. It is sturdy & very well-made. The barometer is a “glass barometer” and we are not certain of it’s age. It too, is a beautiful item, similar to the “Thunder Glass” devices that were brought to the colonies by the Pilgrims in the 1620’s… A simple device, you fill it about 1/3 full with water, (add color if you wish)… If a low pressure system comes the water in the tube rises. High pressure “pushes” the water lower in the tube. Very neat antique english barometer. The item “Antique glass barometer” is in sale since Saturday, February 27, 2016.
