For your consideration is this late 19th century aneroid barometer that is marked on its face “compensated/made in england/keuffel & esser co/ny”. The barometer is 2 3/4 inches in diameter and 1 1/8 inches thick, has a brass housing and a beveled crystal. It comes in its original leather over wood case, which has some issues. Inside the case is an inspection document from a portland, oregon, scientific instrument shop that is dated 1923, which is no doubt the last time the barometer was serviced – it would certainly need to be serviced and adjusted again for it to work properly. As i write this, the local barometric pressure is slightly under 30, and the instrument reads 30.35. Since i bought it from an estate just yesterday, i have no idea if the needle moves at all. The barometer is in remarkably good condition, with no dings or dents in the housing, the crystal has no damage, and the dial has a little age darkening. The case is intact but barely, with the hinge partially broken. There is considerable loss to the leather, especially on the back, and slight loss of the wood. All in all, it’s a very nice old instrument.
